New Bedrooms

Since our kids were down in Arkansas for spring break, we took the opportunity to redo the bedrooms in preparation for Zhen Zhen coming. We did not tell the kids so they were surprised when we got back from Arkansas.
We moved into Tucker’s room (and repainted it), Tucker moved to Harper’s room [...]

Trip to the park in Conway

We went up to see Mom in Conway for the weekend. She had Joel’s kids for Spring Break, so I took our kids, Zoie, and Davis to the park. They tried fishing in Lake Conway (which is essentially a big swamp), but ended up playing in the park and in the [...]

Backpacking trip in the Ouachitas

Harper and Tucker were on Spring Break this week and went down to Arkansas to spend it with their cousins. Tucker has been itching to go on a backpacking trip all winter long, so I took Thursday and Friday out and drove down to Hot Springs. I tried to get [...]

Finally good sledding snow.

We had a fair amount of cold weather this winter, but not a lot of snow. This was our first good snow all winter. We had about 6 inches or so at the house. Harper, Tucker, and I went sledding on Suicide Hill in Brookside. It was packed with [...]

Kansas City Bouldering

We had another very unseasonably warm day today, so while Harper and Tiffani went to a birthday party, Tucker and I decided to go climb some boulders (well really just Tucker, I just watched and made sure he did not fall).

There may not be any mountains in the Kansas City area, but we do have [...]

Biggest day yet so far this year.

Today, in one day, Tucker had his pinewood derby (where he came in 3rd in his den), he went to the barber, we all went to the zoo, Tucker climbed the wall at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and we did our taxes – All in one day.
Of course, the fact that it was a record [...]

Harper is finally getting the Kindergarten thing down.

Harper has not had the best time in Kindergarten. In fact, for the first semester, the bad days outnumbered the good days by a solid 3 to 1. We had tried everything imaginable to try to get her to pay attention and participate better in Kindergarten, yet nothing worked.
However, for some inexplicable [...]

Christmas 2008

We had a nice Christmas this year. We went down to Arkansas for Christmas so the kids could spend Christmas morning with their cousins. This is Harper’s second Christmas and she seems to be fully Americanized for this one (likes getting lots of stuff from Santa). Everyone had a good time.

Second Fishing trip to Mill Creek

Since the fishing hole on the creek was so pretty last time when we fished it last week, we decided to have a family picnic out there today. Harper actually fished this time for a while and caught a couple of fish herself. This is a rare thing for Harper as the [...]

Fishing trip to Mill Creek

Mill Creek is a fairly large creek that runs from down in Olathe to the Kansas River just about the 435 bridge. The upper end of it is very clear much of the time and sand and gravel bottomed (clear creeks are fairly rare around here). There is a biking trail [...]
