Tucker was a fisherman (of course), Harper was a cheerleader, and Zhen Zhen was a princess for Halloween this year.   This was Zhen Zhen’s first Halloween so it took her a little while to get the whole ask for candy and get it thing down.   Just the same, they all came home with several pounds of candy each, and that was even after we gave away all the crap to trick-o-treaters.

Harper actually fished this time for a while and caught a couple of fish herself. This is a rare thing for Harper as the last time I took her fishing she got bored reeling in a perch (Who gets bored reeling in a fish??). We had a picnic lunch, and spent much of the day fishing and exploring the creek. I saw some large carp and rigged up a dough ball to see if we could catch one. The first one I hooked broke off, but ended up catching a fairly large one. In fact, because I was fishing with spinning gear, it took nearly 20 minutes to wear it out enough to land it. Tucker helped get it out of the water, we took a picture of it, and of course through the nasty thing back.

The upper end of it is very clear much of the time and sand and gravel bottomed (clear creeks are fairly rare around here). There is a biking trail that runs the length of the creek that we have biked several times, but this was our first time to try fishing it. I ended up catching a few small white bass and Tucker caught several bluegill. On the way back up the bike trail we saw copperhead crossing the trail. That was the first one I have seen up here (have seen tons in Arkansas). Of course Tucker did not even have a healthy fear of it, so I had to keep him a safe distance back.

Very hilly course. Finished with a time of 20:51, once again making me the 2nd fastest man in Roeland Park.

She was excited, but I think a little bit nervous. too. Tucker started the previous Thursday, so Harper got to go check out her classroom and meet her teacher then. But, today was the first real day of school for her. She has the same kindergarten teacher as Tucker did.

Harper was so excited to “wear a pretty dress” and carry her backpack and lunch.

The weather was nice, low 80s, and sunny. Harper definitely has a lot more endurance for all the walking involved at the KC Zoo this year than last year. Everyone had a good time and Tucker took at a lot of pictures.

We are so excited to have received pre-approval from China to for Yu ZhenZhen. ZhenZhen (pronounced Jin-Jin) is almost 7 years old and is from the same orphanage as Harper!

Was supposed to compete the last 3 years, but in 2006 I was too late to get registered on site, and in 2007 we were in China getting Harper. At any rate, its a very hilly course and I finished second in my company, got points for our company in my division, and finished the race in 20:51.

The Trolley Run is a 4 mile run that starts in Waldo and finishes on the Plaza. Its nearly flat the entire way so its a fast run. I was not at my fittest this time around, but still finished it in 26:55, at a 6:44 mile pace.

Did not do very good though because of an algae bloom. You can probably tell from the picture above with all the green slime in the water.
